0–6 months01

Milk and closeness

  • Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for the first six months, when possible.
  • Follow the baby’s hunger and fullness cues without forcing them.
  • If feeding or breastfeeding is difficult, seek support from a qualified health professional.
6–12 months02

Explore gradually

  • At around 6 months, introduce safe, varied, age-appropriate foods while continuing breastfeeding if desired.
  • Start with small amounts, increase with appetite and gradually offer different textures.
  • No honey before 12 months. Avoid hard or round foods that may cause choking.
1–3 years03

Family food, served safely

  • Offer regular family meals adapted in size and texture.
  • Vary vegetables, fruit, pulses, grains and protein sources; make water the main drink.
  • The adult chooses what is offered; the child decides whether and how much to eat, without pressure.
4–12 years04

Balance and autonomy

  • Build varied meals and limit sugary drinks and highly salted or ultra-processed foods.
  • Encourage active play, sport, regular sleep and screen-free meals.
  • Talk about energy, health and enjoyment rather than weight or dieting.

Calm meals without punishment, bargaining or negative comments about bodies.

When should you seek medical advice?

Seek prompt advice for poor growth or weight loss, persistent refusal to eat, dehydration, or repeated vomiting or diarrhoea. Breathing difficulty, sudden swelling, fainting or choking require urgent help.
